Puto Maya is a popular delicacy from Cebu and Bohol. In this recipe, we will share with you how to make it in an easier way!

Ingredients You’ll Need:

  • 3 cups glutinous rice
  • 4 cups coconut milk
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 small ginger root, peeled and smashed
  • salt, to taste


Cooking Procedures:

Step 1

Wash and soak glutinous rice in water for at least 2-3 hours.

Step 2

Place glutinous rice in a cooking pot. Add coconut milk, cover, and cook over medium heat until it comes to a boil.

Step 3

Add ginger, sugar, and salt. Mix well. Reduce heat and let it simmer for about 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally until the rice is done.

Step 4

Discard ginger and mold-cooked sticky rice with cups.

Step 5

Serve with ripe mangoes and sikwate or brown sugar on the side. Enjoy your puto maya!
