Calamares is among the favorite appetizers in the Philippines. It is basically squid rings coated with egg and bread crumbs and then deep fried. It is best served with a tasty vinegar dip.

Ingredients You’ll Need:

  • 1/2 kg squid
  • 1/2 cup bread crumbs
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • salt and pepper, to taste
  • cooking oil, for deep-frying


Cooking Procedures:

Step 1

Clean the squid by removing the skin and the innards. Rinse well. Slice it into rings.

Step 2

Season the squid rings with salt and pepper.

Step 3

Dip the squid rings into the beaten egg and dredge them into the bread crumbs.

Step 4

Heat the oil in a pan over low heat. Deep fry the squid rings until golden brown. Do not overcook as it will make the squid’s texture tough.

Step 5

Remove from heat and drain the excess oil in a paper towel.

Step 6

Serve with vinegar dip or mayo-ketchup. Enjoy your calamares!
