Minatamis na Saging na Saba

Minatamis na saging na saba is a healthy yet delicious snack popular in the Philippines, especially during summertime. You can also enjoy it as a dessert. It is usually served with just the banana, syrup, and ice mixed together but to make it even more delicious, you can also add evaporated milk and tapioca pearls!

Ingredients You’ll Need:

  • 6 pcs plantain banana (saging na saba), each one cut into 3 parts diagonally
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 1 ½ cup water
  • 1 cup cooked tapioca pearls (sago) (optional)
  • 1 can evaporated milk (optional)
  • ice cubes or crushed ice


Cooking Procedures:

Step 1

In a saucepan, heat water until it boils.

Step 2

Add sugar and salt, then stir continuously until completely dissolved.

Step 3

Add vanilla extract. Bring to a boil then adjust the heat to medium. Let it simmer for 10 minutes.

Step 4

Add the plantain bananas and cover. Continue cooking for another 10 minutes until the bananas are tender and the syrup has thickened.

Step 5

Add the cooked tapioca pearls then remove from heat. Let it cool down to room temperature or chill in the refrigerator.

Step 6

Add ice (cubes or crushed) and evaporated milk to each serving.

Step 7

Serve and enjoy your minatamis na saba!
